Our Story

A Note from Chad:

Country Sun Gardens is a small family-owned business started in 2023. Chad, his wife Holly, and young son Marcus all work and play around the small farm. Some of the farm is planted each year in vegetable crops for our local market. Another area of the farm is planted in perennials with the majority being daylilies. A small portion of the perennials are sold locally in containers while the rest is available online for shipping bareroot.

I have always had a passion for horticulture since I was a small boy in Eastern Iowa. My dad farmed and worked for a local nursery planting trees. Mom worked for flower shops and even owned a small flower shop for a while. I worked for the local nursery growing up with my dad then attended Iowa State University for horticulture. I’ve had almost every job in the industry since ISU including several positions in small/medium/large independent garden centers, managing the garden center in a big box store, and even traveling several states for a wholesale nursery supplier. After all these adventures Holly and I decided to move back to Eastern Iowa in 2020 to start a couple things I haven’t done yet - owning a business and becoming a father. We welcomed our son Marcus in early 2021 and my time since has been split between growing plants and spending time with family. We hope you love the plants we grow here and they give you the enjoyment they have given us.
